Finding Your Happy Place

Took a week off from the Blog to give my kids some much needed Karla time, as they call it! We spent the last two weeks travelling from Delray to Toronto and then back to Delray again.   Our last week here with my father in-law and Antonella before braving the cold was amazing. The weather was hot and sunny, not even a drop of rain. We also took a little drive to visit The Breakers Hotel , the last luxury family owned hotel in America, for an afternoon coffee among the rich. A one night stay will run you about $1700US, a little out of my price range. West Palm Beach Coffee in the Courtyard  Enjoying the Grounds at The Breakers Hotel One evening we travelled to Lake Worth to see a street painting festival, and take in some of the local flair. As you know people watching is my favourite hobby and Lake Worth did not disappoint!  Lake Worth Street Paintint Pikachu is Everywhere Travelling back to Toronto for a quick 5 day visit was bittersweet! We were excited to see family and friends but

Florida is definitely starting to feel like home. That has both its pros and its cons. I don’t know how I’m going to go back to Canadian living. We are heading back to Mississauga next week for a quick weekend visit. I’m honestly a little terrified to go home and not looking forward to the cold. We haven’t been to our real home since Dec 14th and somehow I’m not homesick. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely miss my kids, family and friends but thanks to FaceTime and technology it’s much easier to ease those moments.   Rob and his Dad Solving The 🌎’s Problems The hardest time of the last 6 months hit this week when our daughter Simone was sick and I couldn’t be there in person to comfort her. The poor girl caught some stomach bug that had forced her to spend her birthday this past Tuesday (Happy 20th Birthday Simone) in bed. Luckily her brother quickly became Nurse Matteo and helped comfort her along with my amazing mom who headed over to see her. Thank you to everyone who made here feel

This last week has been all about reconnecting with family and friends who have come to visit us in Florida or partied with us in Cancun. Enjoying some loaded Nachos with  Dominic and Antonella My father in law and Antonella came down to get some sunshine and hang out with us so they say … but I think they just missed their Casinos that have become second homes for them here in South Florida. I do have to admit, their loyalty to the Casino has allowed us to enjoy some great meals!  Susan and I with her friend Anabela  My long time friend Susan came down for a mini holiday to visit her friend in Pompano and we got a chance to catch up over dinner and take in some people watching on the Delray Strip.  Alka’s Mexican Party  Our next adventure in this year of travel was planned by my longtime friend Alka. She invited us along with some other couples to join her in Costa Mujeres, Mexico for her Fabulous 50th birthday bash. Since what happens in Mexico stays in Mexico there are some things I

Street Art on the 6th Wow… they weren’t kidding when they say Texas is another world and I only saw a small part of it! So here is the good, the bad and the highlights of our weekend getaway to the great state of Texas. (We loved the signs about having fire arms everywhere!) Fire Arm Policy As many of you know from my previous blog, we got delayed by a couple of days due to the ice storm that hit Southern Texas last week. It all worked out in the end and we still accomplished everything we had on our list in 4 days instead of 6. But I’m sure many of you are not surprised by that! I’m going to split this blog into 4 categories: Austin, San Antonio, Live Music and of course FOOD.   Great Sign  While Austin is home to many landmarks its unofficial slogan is “Keep Austin Weird,” and it lives up to that promise with funky shops, The Lady Bird riverside, plenty of live music and one-of-a-kind neighborhoods with lots of atmosphere. We covered the city by foot, walking 24km in one day to taken
