Put Puglia on Your List

We have arrived in Puglia and it surpassed our expectations! The people, the towns and the food have become backgrounds to images we never could have imagined. The beaches are still full of people (amazing people watching) and the water is a combination of crystal blues with hues of green. We travelled by train which I highly recomend from Rome to Monopoli ($25 Euros for both of us 1st class) and we have been using the train to do day trips to Lecce ($16 Euros) and Polignano A Mare ($4 Euros). Our accomodations in Monopli is absolutely adorable and the host has been amazing. Thank you to our friend Gracie from back home who has given us excellent recommendation from what to see to where to eat! We all know how Rob loves to talk and we have been fortunate to have met lovely travellers who have struck up conversations with us! One couple we met from England shared with us that her grandmother who is 101 years old was a seamstress for the Queen and some of her family members were the grounds keepers for Winston Churchill. I love hearing peoples stories! Rob has been pleasantly surprised by how many bald men there are in Puglia, he feels right at home. The food has also made him smile, Foccia and Panzerotti melt in your mouth here and there is no shortage of delicious cheeses to go with the incredible wine from Puglia. I am a huge fan of fresh figs and Puglia endulges me daily with the biggest figs I've ever seen. We had a tradition fish dinner last night with a full bottle of wine for $47 Euros!!! Tonight we plan to feast on orecchiette another Apulian favourite! Our last stop in Puglia is the city of Bari, stay tuned for Friday's post to see our last part of Puglia! I'm sure it will be bellissimo!
