There is a Little Bit of Everything in London

London is a city for people who enjoy limitless options of things to do, places to go and restaurants at which to eat. You have virtually everything on your doorstep, and one thing that might surprise you is the amount of green space to enjoy. We especially enjoyed the lively street markets and amazing museums. London is bustling, vibrant, multicultural and cosmopolitan, making the old and new work so well together.
We were extremely fortunate to have my cousin Raquel with us to explore the city, she has been living in London for the past year and made sure we had the best experience. She even managed to have beautiful 18-degree weather and some sunshine brought in for the weekend too! I'm sure you can imagine just how much walking took place during this London visit but the sights were amazing. Everywhere you look, it’s a moment of awe. We even made it for the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace. I know it's touristy but, it’s the famous English pomp and circumstance, and it stood out as one of our highlights. The museums had tons of artifacts and paintings, we had only ever read about or seen online. It was quite an experience to witness such history.
Our hotel was right by Westminster Bridge which gave us daily views of Big Ben, The London Eye and Westminster Abbey. Not only is Westminster Abbey still used as an active place of worship, it also serves as a fascinating historical museum, as well as the final resting place of some of the most fascinating people in England's history. Just walking along the bridges in London was an experience in itself. When we get back I'll post all the must-see sights in London for those of you who might venture over to check it out.
It would be a Rob and Karla adventure without something to add to our story. We were able to catch a subway to the airport on Sunday evening and luckily because Rob likes to leave plenty of time we were not in a rush. Everything was going great, we had 6 more stops until the airport and a huge storm rolled in. The storm took down a tree that, yes you guessed it, landed on the subway tracks just a few stops ahead. You can only imagine the panic as most passengers were also headed to the airport. They announced that the train would be ending at the next station, Rob quickly decided we were getting off at this earlier station to beat the mad rush of people trying to get taxis. As we left the platform which was outdoors and pissing rain, I quickly got on my Bolt App and got us a ride to the airport. Problem averted, we still got to the airport with lots of time especially since our flight ended up being delayed. Just another part of the plot, although a little pricier than we anticipated!
Would I go back to London? Definitely, I think it's one of those places that always has more to see and do. Not to mention an amazing theatre community that I missed out on this time. The theatres and shows are everywhere and were calling my name...but you can’t do it all and it gives me a reason to go see my cousin again too! We are now in Rome, with merely 3 days left to hang out with Matteo and Martina (Rob’s stepsister). Looking forward to taking in the nice weather, Italian food and of course some more sights! Why slow down now?
