Bellissimo Bari

Image
It’s been an adventure filled couple of days. We visited some wonderful little towns, ate way too much amazing food and had a bus/train strike to contend with. Our private guide Vito to Ostuni, Martina d’Franca and Alberobello-Trulli Houses (which we did all in one day), also happened to be Stanley Tucci’s guide. In the episode from season one he even cooks with Vito's Mama. We decided to take a picture like he did with Stanley! Check it out! He also is invited to Madonna's dinner parties when ever she is in town (so cool)! Today we played our first card game to wait out the morning thunderstorms in the lobby of our AirBnB since we had to check out! Once the rain stopped we ventured off to explore the old city of Bari by bike. Great city with a mix of old and new! We are now at the airport after finding a taxi with everyone else stranded by the strike! It's all part of the plot like Simone says! 41 more days of adventure to go! Check out some of the pictures we took and

Put Puglia on Your List

Image
We have arrived in Puglia and it surpassed our expectations! The people, the towns and the food have become backgrounds to images we never could have imagined. The beaches are still full of people (amazing people watching) and the water is a combination of crystal blues with hues of green. We travelled by train which I highly recomend from Rome to Monopoli ($25 Euros for both of us 1st class) and we have been using the train to do day trips to Lecce ($16 Euros) and Polignano A Mare ($4 Euros). Our accomodations in Monopli is absolutely adorable and the host has been amazing. Thank you to our friend Gracie from back home who has given us excellent recommendation from what to see to where to eat! We all know how Rob loves to talk and we have been fortunate to have met lovely travellers who have struck up conversations with us! One couple we met from England shared with us that her grandmother who is 101 years old was a seamstress for the Queen and some of her family members were the

Roaming Around Rome

Image
Ciao Tutti! Roaming around Rome has been an amazing experience. Luckily, we have been here before and other than a quick visit to Trevi Fountain we have been enjoying the outer edges of Rome and avoiding the tourist areas. We helped Matteo move into a university area in Rome called San Lorenzo which is about a 35 minute walk from the Colosseum. He is all ready for his experience at Luiss! Trastevere where Antonella lives (Rob's stepmom) is a hidden gem just outside of Rome with an amazing vibe. The streets are filled with locals and the cuisine is fantastico. It's been a lot of Pasta, Pizza and Vino but Rob has yet to buy me a gelato! We also made a stop in Ostia, one of our favourite beach town outside of Rome and devoured Bomba (Italian style donuts). It's been so nice to visit with family and friends who have gone out of their way to spend time with us and help us get Matteo settled. Rob is still working on his stamina, according to him, he is not eating and drinking

Time to Go....52 Days Starts Now

Happy First Day of School to all the students and educators out there. Our daughter Simone begins her 2nd year at Brock University and is all settled in and ready to start classes tomorrow. This year is starting out a little different for me, no classroom, no school, no boring meetings or duty schedules...it's travel time. We are finally on our way and have managed to pack two months worth of items we might need into two carry on suitcases and 2 backpacks. We had an exceptional Uber driver our good friend Danny Chilleli who got us safely to Toronto Pearson Airport where we got to through security and to our gate in less than 20 minutes. Our first stop is Rome, Italy through Montreal. Lucky for us, our son and some family will be there to greet us and spend a few days together before heading south to our next destination. Did we forget something? I'm sure we did but when in Rome.... Ciao for now! Pizza, Pasta and Vino here we come! (I'll be posting on Tuesdays and Frid

Carry-On Only... Can It Be Done?

It's been an eventful week, our son Matteo has left for his semester abroad in Rome so I've been busy getting him on his way. Now it's time to focus on packing for me! Yes…I’m planning on travelling 52 days with just a Carry-On. Those of you who know me, will appreciate that I love a challenge. The freedom of not having to wait for luggage, and knowing I have everything with me is the bonus . The most challenging part will be making sure I have the right clothing for the variety of weather conditions. Travelling from European heat to the wetlands of the UK and Ireland may complicate matters.
